Navy names ship after gay rights advocate Harvey Milk

The Navy is naming a ship in honor of the late gay rights leader Harvey Milk, who served in the Navy for four years before he began a career in San Francisco city government. Navy Secretary Ray Mabus said Tuesday that Milk displayed tremendous courage fighting for the rights of the LGBT community. The ship is one of a new fleet of replenishment oilers that will be built in San Diego. Milk’s career as a Navy officer, however, ended with an “other than honorable” discharge, due to allegations of fraternization with enlisted personnel. Some argue that Milk was forced out… Keep Reading

I caught my husband watching gay porn. Does this mean he’s gay?

I am 39 years old and my husband is 51; we have been together nine years and married four. This morning, he was jacking off on my arse during foreplay and watching porn on his phone, which is not unusual. The problem is when I looked to see what he was watching (we often watch porn together), he got a little mad. I let it go, but when he got in the shower, I looked at his phone and saw that he was watching gay porn. MEN. I don’t think I have a problem with that, but it kind of… Keep Reading

Olympic gymnast Danell Leyva wants to ‘Make America gay again,’ supports trans rights

Danell Leyva, Olympic gymnast and one of the United States’ shining stars today after winning two silver medals, in June recorded a powerful video in support of the LGBT community. In it the three-time Olympic medalist (he won a bronze in London) wears a “Make America Gay Again” shirt and talks about, among other things, the rights of transgender people to use the bathroom of their gender identity. “Recently there has been much said about trans rights and the danger people fear they may pose if they are allowed to use whatever bathroom they wish,” Leyva said in the video. “These… Keep Reading

NBC does a terrific profile of gay beach volleyball player and her wife

We have been critical of NBC for some blunders it has made in covering gay and lesbian athletes at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics. Now the network needs to be praised for its wonderful feature on Brazilian beach volleyball player Larissa Franca and her wife, Liliane Maestrini. The three-minute video aired on the NBC national network and examined the dynamics and love of their relationship. Lili is also a beach player but is not an Olympian. Larissa’s playing partner is Talita Rocha and the two have reached the semifinals, which are today. (Update: Larissa and Talita lost in the semis and will play for bronze). “To… Keep Reading

Trump’s Unsettling Proposal for Gay People and Women

The strangest of many strange aspects of Donald Trump’s new, improved position on how to keep “bad” Muslims out of the United States is that this favorite of homophobes and misogynists is promising to protect LGBT folk and women from terrorists. One of his louder supporters, the anomalous gay voice of the alt-right, Milo Yiannopoulos, wrote about this at his perch at Breitbart.com, arguing that Trump is offering LGBT Americans the only thing that matters. [D]ecline to bake a cake for some lesbians and you are a heinous bigot. Murder 50 fags and injure 50 more and you’re a tragic victim, probably reacting to islamophobia, whose dad… Keep Reading

Sweden to deport gay soccer player back to Liberia, where he will be jailed, beaten and raped

Even as the “gayest” team in the Olympics, the Sweden women’s soccer team, advanced to the gold-medal match in Rio, we’ve learned that Sweden plans to deport a Liberian gay soccer player who had sought safety in Sweden. Andrew Nagbe was reportedly detained by immigration services at a recent pride festival in Sweden because his papers were not in order. Now the country will deport him to Liberia, which is just about the worst country in the world on LGBT issues. If he is deported to Liberia, Nagbe faces a judicial system that has criminalized homosexuality. Facing a one-year prison sentence, Nagbe knows… Keep Reading

Anderson Cooper was Tim Cook’s guide for coming out as gay

Two years ago, in an essay in Bloomberg BusinessWeek, Apple CEO Tim Cook told the world he was gay. “I’m proud to be gay, and I consider being gay among the greatest gifts God has given me,” he wrote. In doing so, he became the first publicly gay CEO of a Fortune 500 company. The essay, which came just days after Cook stood in the capitol in his home state and called out Alabama for being “too slow on equality for the LGBT community,” was no spur of the moment decision. In an exclusive interview with The Washington Post, Cook said “it had been planned for actually… Keep Reading
