FINALLY: Lingerie for Trans and Nonbinary Folks

in Blog/Entertainment & LifeStyle/Weekly

For most people, feeling sexy is an important part of the human experience. Queer folks often have to work harder to find a sense of self-love amidst a culture that puts strict limits on how beauty can look.

For trans and nonbinary people, this struggle is especially difficult. Clothes, accessories, and makeup can serve as tools through which to reveal our inner beauty to ourselves and the world. We’ve compiled a short list of lingerie designers on a mission to create garments suited to a diversity of queer bodies.

1.) Rebirth Garments:

Rebirth Garments are hand-made by designer and QPOC Sky Cubacub. Sky’s mission is to create underwear for every body on the spectrum of gender, size, and ability. The Rebirth Etsy shop includes adjustable binders, sports bras, leggings, jockstraps, and body harnesses. http://rebirthgarments.com

2.) Chrysalis Lingerie:

Chrysalis Lingerie is geared directly towards transgender women. Aiming to solve some of the clothing-related problems that trans women struggle with, Chrysalis sells garments specifically designed to help women feel sexy without having to stress about their underwear. http://www.chrysalislingerie.com/

3.) Bluestocking Boutique:

The most well-known store on our list, Bluestocking Boutique has been selling undergarments for trans and nonbinary people for two years now. Bluestocking’s founder, queer-identified Jeanna Kadlec, aims to empower individuals in the LGBTQA+ community who have been left behind by lingerie companies. They were awarded Best Lingerie Boutique of 2015 by The Lingerie Addict, and value sustainability and ethical manufacturing in addition to inclusivity. https://www.bluestockingsboutique.com/
Queer-bodied folks are left with fewer options when it comes to buying clothes. Thanks to the leadership shown by these designers and others like them, change is on the horizon.
